The article describes a qualitative study on training troubleshooting in vocational schools and inter-company vocational training centers from a teachers’ perspective. The aim of the qualitative study is to gain an up-to-date insight into the teaching of troubleshooting competence in the field of electrical and metal engineering. Subjective experiences of teachers for training troubleshooting competence will be elaborated. Subsequently, first implications for the development of a methodical-didactic concept for the training of troubleshooting competence are derived. The investigation confirms the deficits mentioned in the literature and provides a current insight into the problem. The study is part of the research project MARLA in which a playful VR learning application for training troubleshooting competence in the field of electrical and metal engineering will be developed.
