Currently, a great deal of attention is being paid to the professional action of diversity and gender aspects in teaching STEM. In order to develop evidence-based training for teachers, it was investigated which diversity competences can be identified among teachers in Baden-Württemberg and what effect the consideration of individual aspects has on pupils. This publication shows the development of a qualitative observation sheet and a quantitative instrument for student interviews. The mixed method approach with 53 lessons with N = 7 teachers were observed and in addition N = 159 students were interviewed. While a positive effect on the willingness to make an effort can be observed depending on the action-oriented approach, this is not yet visible in the data with regard to a problem-orientation.
