Abstract

This study examines the teaching of the GPS system in higher education. The focus is on determining the scope, teaching methods, experiences and potential in bachelor’s degree courses in mechanical engineering in Germany. In total, lecturers from 85 of the 115 selected universities took part in the survey. Over 50 % stated that they do not refer to the current state of standardization in their teaching. The teaching of concepts, principles and rules of GPS is neglected in all subject areas except quality management. There is room for improvement in the timing of teaching and the need for practical examples. In addition, potentials regarding digital media and activating learning are highlighted.
